Leo H. Ruebke, age 83, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away on November 9, 2025 at LaVigne Home for Compassionate Care. He was born on October 7, 1942, in Steeleville, Illinois, to Raymond and Ruby Ruebke.

Leo earned his Master of Music degree from Southern Illinois University and moved with his family to Michigan in 1970, where he began a long and fulfilling career as Band Director at Kearsley Schools. For 32 years, Leo inspired countless students with his passion for music, dedication to excellence, and boundless patience.

In his retirement years, Leo continued to share his love of music, performing with and directing the New Horizons band. He performed with the Genesee Wind Symphony, and sang at Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc.

Outside of music, Leo was a talented woodworker whose craftsmanship can be seen throughout his home and family - from stools, jewelry boxes and cradles, to shelves, rocking chairs and his famous banana hangers. He brought the same creativity and care in his woodworking as he did to his music. He enjoyed a good round of golf whenever he could.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Nancy Ruebke; children: Mark Ruebke, Martha (Ed) Hanley, and Jason (Paige); grandchildren: Lindsey, Megan, Ava and his adopted grandson Jared, grandson Netawin; and sister-in-law, Patricia Rockafellow.

He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Ruebke; mother, Ruby Ruebke; stepmother, Genevieve Ruebke; sister, Doloras (John) Hester; mother-in-law, Leola Nyman; and sister-in-law, Judy Banfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 3-8pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI. Memorial service will be Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, MI, Pastor Bob Scott officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Genesee Wind Symphony or Faith Lutheran Church.

Leo will be remembered for his deep love of family, his lifelong devotion to music, and his gentle humor. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched - through his teaching, his art, and his song.
