John was born in Gates, PA on April 14, 1925, son of the late John and Stella (Gajda) Sperla. He married the love of his life, Audrey I. Rosebush, on August 23, 1947. Their enduring partnership spanned nearly six decades until Audrey’s passing on April 19, 2006. Together, they built a legacy grounded in love, family, and commitment. A proud graduate of Flint Tech High School and the General Motors Institute, John went on to enjoy a distinguished 46-year career at General Motors, where he left an indelible mark through his hard work, dedication, and integrity. John was a man of deep faith and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He also found community and friendship at the Davison Country Club and through his involvement with JEDNOTA. John had a zest for life and a sharp intellect. He found joy in simple pleasures—bowling, golfing, and reading—and took great pride in keeping a perfectly manicured, weed-free yard. His generosity and lighthearted nature were hallmarks of who he was. Known for handing out $2 bills to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, John created a cherished tradition that brought smiles and lasting memories to all. A loyal supporter of his family, John was a constant presence at his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. His unwavering support, whether in the bleachers or in spirit, meant the world to his loved ones. John also had a soft spot for scratch-off lottery tickets and delighted in the thrill of a potential win. He had a quick wit, a hearty laugh, and a warmth that will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Above all, John will be remembered for his boundless generosity, sharp mind, and the deep love he had for his family and his duchess, Marilyn. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
John is survived by his loving partner of 15 years, Marilyn Pittsley; 6 children, Nancy (Wes) Worthing, John Sperla, Karen (Ken) Milito, Pam Sperla-Willacker, Phil Sperla and Kim (Thom) Cereske; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Janet Sperla; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Sperla; wife, Audrey I. Sperla; 2 siblings, George Sperla and Marge (Erney) Jablonski.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Paul Karr, Jr., Dr. Shukairy and their dedicated staff, Kelly Simmons, and John’s compassionate caregivers — Kathy, Connie, Shannon, Pam, Jordan, Joyce, and Shanna — for their exceptional care, kindness, and unwavering support. Your professionalism and heartfelt dedication brought comfort and peace to both John and his loved ones, and will never be forgotten.
