YOUNG, Janet L. – of Flushing, age 82, died peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Living Joy Assisted Living in Flushing. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 4PM Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Westside Church – 5090 Pasadena Ave., in Flushing. The family will receive visitors at the church on Sunday from 2PM until the time of service at 4PM.
Janet was born on August 7, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, to the late William and Josephine (Bueche) Knieper. She graduated from Flushing High School in 1961. On August 20, 1965, Janet married the love of her life, Gary Young, and together they shared 60 wonderful and devoted years of marriage. She began her working career at Genesee Merchants Bank and later worked at GM Parts as a key punch operator. Janet later became a stay-at-home mother, her most important and meaningful role, raising her children and later enjoying time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted woman of faith and a longtime member of Westside Church, where she formed many meaningful and lasting friendships. Janet found happiness in life’s simple pleasures - playing cards, reading (especially her Bible), and watching Hallmark movies. Known for her kind and gentle spirit, she was also a wonderful cook and baker, always sharing her love through the meals she prepared. Above all, Janet cherished her family. They were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent creating lasting memories with them and with her dear friends.
Surviving are: Husband, Gary Young; Daughter, Ann (Todd) King; Son, Matt (Pam) Young; Grandchildren: Evan King (fiancée Montana), Grant Young, Landon (Lindsey) Young, and Harper Young; Brother, William (Marlene) Knieper; Many special nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends.
