MC TIERNAN, Lillian W. – of Lapeer, age 92, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility – Suncrest. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. A Scripture Service will be held 7 PM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County or Formar Nature preserve in Lillian’s name.

Lillian was born on June 9, 1925, in Port Jervis, New York, daughter of William and Harriett Murphy. She graduated from Middletown (N.Y.) High School in 1943 and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing (N.Y.) where she was in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. Lillian also attended classes at Columbia University and University of Michigan-Flint. She married James J. McTiernan, Jr. on December 13, 1947 and they moved to Flint in 1950. Lillian established the first ambulatory surgery department at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint while working there as a registered nurse for many years. She retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Flint in 1988. In addition to her card club and bowling, Lillian pursued gardening, reading, watercolor painting, piano and doing restaurant reviews for the Flint Journal in her retirement. An only child herself, she enjoyed watching her family grow, and being with family was her favorited pastime. She organized annual Christmas parties, fall picnics and summer vacations in Oscoda.

Lillian had four children; Gail (John) Burleson of Davison, James (Lynne) McTiernan of Flint, Christine (Richard) Magner of Ann Arbor and John McTiernan of East Lansing; 11 grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Burleson, Maureen Dormire, Amanda Burleson, Wendy (Andy) Argue, Sam McTiernan, Katie (John Paul Cmejrek) McTiernan, James McTiernan, Emily Magner, Richard Magner, Michael Magner and Thomas Magner; 13 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr. Bill Hukill and the extraordinary staffs of the Landings of Genesee Valley, Lapeer County Medical Care Facility – Suncrest and Heart to Heart Hospice.
