Smith, JoAnn H. Of Flushing, age 78, died Saturday, August 1, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass will be 12 noon, Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Robert Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the Mass at 12 noon. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center.
JoAnn was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 26, 1941, the daughter of Paul F. And Ludmila A. (Bartos) Smith. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors of Science Degree. JoAnn worked at Hurley Medical Center for many years as a Medical Technologist with a specialty in the Blood Bank. She also taught Virology to the Medical Technologist students and Pathology residents and assisted in establishing the first Virology Lab at Hurley. In her early years, JoAnn enjoyed playing golf and tennis. She was an avid sports fan and was a Wolverine forever. JoAnn was a member at St. Robert Catholic Church and volunteered at the Flushing Christian Outreach Center. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her siblings, Kathy Birchmeier, Frances Smith, Thomas and wife Beth Smith, John and wife Sheila Smith, Ann and husband Mike Quarress, Becky and husband Curt Cross, Jeff and wife Peggy Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews who were very important to her. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Martha Whipple. |
