Allen, Doris Jean (Scanlon) – of Flushing, formerly of Montrose, age 91, peacefully passed away Friday, April 18, 2025, at Vibrant Life (Lodges of Durand). Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Doris’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Doris was born on March 2, 1934, in Montrose, MI, Doris was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. Doris proudly graduated from Montrose High School in 1952 and married Dallas Allen, in July of 1954. Doris dedicated 25 years of her career as a secretary at J.L. Hudson in the Genesee Valley Mall, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many patrons. Beyond her professional life, Doris was a vibrant soul with a zest for creativity. She found immense joy in crafting—whether it was sewing, quilting, or crocheting. In her leisure time, she cherished moments spent playing Bingo with her sister Bernice and participating in craft shows alongside her sister-in-law Caroline. Doris remained a busy bee, staying active and engaged with her community, often enjoying lunch with her fellow retirees.
Surviving are: Children: Christine Allen, Mark Allen and Marsha Van Tol; Brother, Dale Scanlon; Sister, Margaret Schweitzer; Many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in passing by her parents, Joseph and Esther (Larkin) Scanlon; the father of her children, Dallas Allen; Siblings: Maurice (Caroline) Scanlon, Lawrence (Ella Jean) Scanlon, Bernice (Robert) Clark, Irene (Jack) Buck, and Eva Scanlon. The family would like to send a special thank you to Vibrant Life (Lodges of Durand), Amara Hospice, and Valley Area Agency of Aging. For all the compassion and care that Doris received. |
