LORD, Ray E. – Age 84, of Fenton, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Rd., Flint, Father Dwight Ezop officiating. Visitation will be held 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the North End Soup Kitchen, 735 E. Stewart Ave, Flint 48505. Ray was born November 18, 1930 in Flint to Ruth and Glen Lord. He went to Utley and was a great athlete. He worked in many of the plants in Genesee County and went through the ranks to be Vice President of Local 659 for many years. He was the former chair of the Genesee County Democratic Party and also chaired the Southern Genesee Dems where he was chosen the “Democrat of the Year” in 2007. Ray served as a precinct delegate to many State of Michigan Democratic Conventions. He was a campaign manager for many local candidates and served on issue campaigns. He enjoyed Toast Masters and was a terrific speaker, but mostly he enjoyed helping people who needed their voice heard but didn’t have the ability to get that hearing. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Fenton. Surviving are: the mother of his children, Barbara Gifford; daughters, Linda and husband Reggie Carter, Julie Soliz, Candy Brannon; grandchildren Andrea (Czerwinski) Moleski, Laurie (Thayer) and husband Chad Welch, Keri (Czerwinski) Pifer, Sarah Thayer, Amber Cook, Reshae (Cook) Cherry, Leah Soliz, Gabe Soliz; great grandchildren: Kelsey, Trenton, Zackary, Caden, Braxton, Kyle, Kendall, Carter, Cameron, Ty, Gibson, Scarlett, Emerson and Stella; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Sherry Czerwinski; great granddaughter, Avery; his siblings Albert, Robert, Pauline, Earl and Dorothy.
