SMITH, Janet Ruth – of Clio, age 93, died Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Maple Woods Manor. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Bethany United Methodist Church. Pastor David Wichert officiating. The family will receive visitors on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
Janet was born July 9, 1932 in Flint, Michigan to the late Keith and Gladys (Turner) Chappell. She grew up in Clio, Michigan and graduated from Clio High School with the class of 1950. On May 25, 1952 she married Rolland Smith in Indiana and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1991. Prior to her retirement, Janet was an RN at Hurley Medical Center for 13 years, before finishing her career with Dr. Paul Morin at his family practice. Janet was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church and the Tabitha Circle at the church. She enjoyed crafts, reading, camping, and traveling with her husband. Janet was famous for her cookies and loved to share them with everyone. She loved spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Hale, Michigan.
Surviving are: Children, Craig Smith, Keith (Linda) Smith, Ann (Joseph) Poirier, Joy (Scott) Darron, Jill (James) Henige; 10 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Judy Chappell. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Rolland Smith; Grandson, Jeff Smith; Brother, David Chappell.
