Ronald Arthur Hammond, a loving husband, father, and “Papa”, passed away suddenly on March 28, 2026, at the age of 76. Born January 7, 1950, in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of the late Arthur Ray Hammond and May Alice (Clark) Hammond. Ron lived a full life marked by dedication to his work and family.
After graduating from Flushing High School, Ron married his sweetheart, Patty, in their hometown of Flushing on January 5, 1974. They spent over 52 years together raising their two children, Ryan and Lindsay.
Throughout his working years, Ron wore many hats. He went on to build a successful career with the Michigan Department of Transportation, where he gained immense respect from his colleagues and retired after 30 years of service.
Known for his gentle spirit and jolly laugh, Ron was a friend to many, a respected member of his community, and a comfort to his family. A man who lived to help his neighbor, Ron was always willing to offer his time, never saying no to a friend with a building project. In his retirement, he spent many years serving the Genesee Sportsmen’s Club, holding the role of President at the time of his passing.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron found his happiness in nature – spending much of his time hunting, fishing, and at his cabin up north. He was an entertaining storyteller, gladly sharing his outdoor adventures with his friends and family.
Above all, Ron cherished his role as a dad to his children and Papa to his grandchildren. He delighted in teaching them life’s lessons and will be remembered for giving the very best hugs. He made sure each of them became a strong swimmer, starting lessons in the pool as soon as they could walk. He also shared his love for the outdoors with them – teaching them to bait a hook and cast their rods into the lake, while happily providing them with an endless supply of worms.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Patty Hammond; his children, Ryan (Amanda) Hammond of Hemlock, Lindsay (Joseph) Johnson of Milford; his five grandchildren, Arlo, Harper, Peyton, Everly, Connor; his sister, Judy (Donald) Lobser; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Ray Hammond in 2009 and May Alice (Clark) Hammond in 2004.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and lessons in the outdoors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Genesee Sportsman’s Club, an organization that Ron spent many years serving. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. |
