James Camp, affectionately known to many as Jim, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in Grand Blanc. A funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, 1194 E. Mount Morris Rd., Mount Morris, Michigan. Jim’s family will be present at the funeral home on Tuesday, to receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm; and on Wednesday, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm; Pastor Mark Pretznow officiating with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Jim’s tribute page on martinfuneralhome.com. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Genesee County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Jim was born in Grand Blanc, on November 22, 1937, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus and Sarah (Rogers) Camp. He was educated locally, until heeding the call of duty and proudly enlisting into the Army National Guard until earning his honorable discharge. As a young man, Jim would begin a 32-year career with General Motors starting at Fisher Body before transferring to Buick City until his retirement. He was an avid hunter, he enjoyed hunting deer, squirrels, and pheasants; he also had a love for fishing. His green thumb could grow fruit and veggies of every kind. It was well known fact that Jim grew the largest watermelon. His love for the outdoors, lead him into raising rabbits, beagles and chihuahuas. In his free time, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also known for being a collector of die cast model cars and coin collecting.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Judy and husband, David Dawson; Stella Lindsey, Rebecca Camp, Juin and husband, Fred Cool; grandchildren: Monica Potter, Dakota Camp, James P. Camp II, Taylor Combs, Logan Combs, Trinity Whyte, Sara Dawson, James Dawson Jr., Tiffany Camp, Cassie Camp, and Ruby Camp; six great-grandchildren; grand dogs: Castiel, Tigger and Coco; and many other family members and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents; favorite brother and best friend, Emmett and wife, Jean Camp; brothers: Rufus Camp Jr., Glen Camp, and Richard Camp; sister, May Wolfgang.
