Claude Donald “Donnie” Spooner wore a lot of hats during his 91 years of life.
Son of Claude A Spooner and Cora Pleasant Spooner.
Baby of the family, to siblings Juanita, Paul, Ralph, David, Dorcas, and Lois.
Graduate of the old Flint Central High School.
Employee of General Motors.
Husband of Elizabeth Marie “Gigi” Spooner for 72 years, forming the original Donnie and Marie.
Father of Teri Wielgorecki (Michael), Toni Stutz, Teddi Spooner, and Don Jr. (Charlotte).
Grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to multitudes.
Uncle Donnie to many, many nieces and nephews.
Ordained minister, Sunday School teacher, missionary to Haiti, preacher/singer of the gospel.
Lover of Jesus, his wife and family, ham radios, computers, old time gospel music, old cars, fish and chips, coconut cream pie, and the Detroit Tigers. And he played a mean game of “Sorry”.
Dad has gone to Jesus.
The hat he’s wearing now says “Good and faithful servant”, presented to him by Christ with the words “Well Done”.
Not because he was a good man.
Not because he adhered to a set of rules and regulations, or a particular creed or denomination.
Not because he always got it right.
But because he clung to the Cross and the completed work of Christ.
Because nothing else matters.
