After graduating high school in 1960, Don began a 42-year career as a Crane Operator at GM Metal Fab Truck and Bus. There he made many lifelong friendships.
On August 24th, 1963, Don married the love of his life, Diane Bellinger . Together, they shared 55 years of a beautiful life filled with unconditional love, laughter, adventures, and many casino trips.
In 1966 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served two years, first as a squad leader and later transferred to Germany as a tank commander.
Don had a gift for making people laugh. His sense of humor was the heartbeat of every gathering, he brought endless smiles and touched the lives of all that knew him. He was known for his incredible ability to fix just about anything. His specialty was lawn mowers and small engines. There wasn’t a task he wouldn’t figure out, except how to fix our broken hearts.
Throughout his life he enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, softball, bowling, and hunting. Mostly, Don enjoyed Tuesday’s “Family Night” which included dinner, cards, and lots of laughs.
Don is survived by his two daughters, Paula Nations (fiance John Dunavant)of Vernon and Kimberly Harris of Lennon; three beloved grandsons, Jacob and Jordan Harris, Tyler (Russelle) Perkins; and extended grandchildren Kelsey, Justin, Kourtney, also his special bonus grandson, Devin Harris, and great granddaughter Ida Mae.
