Martin, Elaine Hanson of Flushing, age 89, died Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Hyde Park Memory Care Home. Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Barb Cavin will officiate. Private burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choice.
Elaine was born in Flint, Michigan on July 2, 1928, the daughter of Wilfred and Hilda (Hanson) Kendall. She worked as a secretary at Buick where she met and fell in love with William Martin. They were married in Flint, Michigan on April 28, 1951. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1998. Elaine was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Flushing where she enjoyed singing. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, and flower gardening, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and spending time with her family at gatherings.
She is survived by her children, Ronald and wife Michele Martin of Macomb Twp., Linda and husband Kevin McDonnell of Saginaw Twp., Larry and wife Patricia Martin of Flushing; grandchildren, Timothy, Jessica (wife of Christopher), Michael and wife Suzanne, Lauren and husband Justin, L.J. II, Erin; great-grandchildren, Paige and Nathan; sister, Marilyn and husband Glenn Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen and grandson, Christopher.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Hyde Park Memory Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
Although it has been a long goodbye to the Elaine (Mom) we all knew and laughed with, we will take with us, her love of family and friends.
