John Mackenzie Foote, 83, of Flint, Michigan, was born July 10, 1942, and passed away May 10, 2026 at his home in Flint.
John moved to the Civic Park Neighborhood in 1971 and devoted himself to the steady work of strengthening the place he called home. With a deep respect for community and a clear sense of responsibility, he became closely involved in the life and care of the neighborhood and the parks in the area. He founded Operation: Brush-Up, an effort that later became Adopt-a-House Paint Day in 1997, reflecting his belief that lasting change is built through practical service and consistent commitment.
Over the years, John gave his time and leadership in many roles, serving as president of the Haskell Independent Crime Watch and the Civic Park Community League Block Club. He was also a member of the Flint Historic District Commission, the Genesee County Landlords Association, and the Welch Boulevard Business Association. In addition, he assisted with local political campaigning, offering his support where he felt it could make a meaningful difference.
John also ran his own business, Foote's Remodeling and Painting, before retiring—work that mirrored the care he brought to both homes and community alike.
John is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Jennifer Foote, Scott Foote, and Jennifer (Betts) Pendragon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty, and his brother.
Visitation will be held at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, Michigan, on May 15, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00pm; with the Funeral Service immediately following at 1:00pm at the Reigle Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Rd., Flint, Michigan. |
