Judy was born March 31, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, to Peter and Lois (Farnsworth) Taubitz. She met the love of her life, John Rau, in the second grade, and the two remained close throughout their school years. They were married on August 27, 1960, at St. Michael Catholic Church and shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.
A dedicated Registered Nurse, Judy spent more than 30 years caring for others before retiring as an ICU Charge Nurse. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Robert Catholic Church. She had a passion for gardening and took great pride in maintaining her yard and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Judy generously shared her talents with the community through Flushing Parks and Recreation, helping with planting and beautification projects throughout the city, as well as landscaping efforts at St. Robert Catholic Church.
Service to others was a hallmark of Judy’s life. In addition to her work at Flushing Christian Outreach Center, she also volunteered at the Hamilton Free Clinic. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, and she was known as a person to come to for comfort in times of sadness or need. An avid reader and traveler, Judy found joy in learning and exploring new places and ideas throughout her life. She also enjoyed golfing, kayaking, and spending time with her family and cherished circle of friends.
She is survived by her children, Teri and husband Dean Aube, Karen Roberts, Kathy and husband Kevin Snyder, Dennis and wife Martha Rau, and Linda Gordon; grandchildren, Mitchell (Kayla) Aube, Alex Roberts, Jim (Katie) Roberts, Jenna (Peter) DiFrisco, Julia (Felix) Davis, Elizabeth (Kamren Huizenga) Rau, Justin (Carly) Rau, Jacob Rau, Jack (Lexi) Gordon, and AJ Gordon; great-grandchildren, Aubree and Mason, Liam and Teagan, Kollyns, and Joan; she is also survived by her sister, Jan and husband Steve Vogel.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; son-in-law, John Roberts; great-granddaughter, Sloane; her parents Peter and Lois Taubitz; and her brother, Don Taubitz.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Judy’s friend and devoted helper, Regan Guevara, for her compassionate care and friendship, and to Corso Care Hospice and the staff at Springvale Assisted Living for their kindness and support. |
