BEST, Charles Dwight – of Mt. Morris, age 97, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital of Grand Blanc. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 4, 2021 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Michigan. Grandson Ethan Best officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home and on Thursday, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Paws of Honor, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Wounded Warrior Project. The service will be live streamed on Thursday, by clicking on the tribute wall for Mr. Best on O'Guinn Family Funeral Home website.
Charles was born July 26, 1924 in Linden, Michigan to the late George and Emerald (Jameson) Best. He grew up in Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Northern High School with the class of 1942. He served his country in the US Army from 1943 to 1945. He married Maxine Vanaerman in 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1998. Charles then married Virginia Bailey in 2000 and she preceded him in death in 2013. Prior to his retirement in 1998, Charles worked for A & P Tea Company for 23 years, and then worked for Genesee Intermediate School District for 14 years. He was a member of the American Legion. Charles enjoyed baseball, basketball, golfing, and bowling. He was inducted into the Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
Surviving are: Children, Sandy Burtrum, Jacqueline (Fred) Powell, James (Jan) Bailey, Janet (Art) Bone, Jerry (Linda) Bailey, Judy Bailey; Grandchildren, Melissa (Jarrith) Kiel, Mark Manus, Ethan (Jennifer) Best; Great Grandchildren, Shana Manus, Brandon White, Tyler Coons.
