HEATH, George “Terry” - Of Flint, age 79, passed Saturday, July 28, 2018.
Terry was born and raised in Flint and attended Saint Matthew’s Catholic High School. After high school, he joined the United States Army and Michigan Army National Guard in 1956 and served until 1963. Terry worked at Fisher Body Automotive Plant as part of their computer team but was later transferred to Lordstown, Ohio to manage their Computer Division. In 1970, he and his family moved to Visalia, California where he worked as a Data Control Supervisor for the Nash-DeCamp Company. Living in Visalia, he continued many of the same activities he enjoyed while in Michigan including singing in a Barbershop Chorus and Quartet, involvement in the local Elks Lodge (Life Member), and some new ones including the E Clampus Vitus Fraternity and trying his hand at coaching his children’s sports teams.
Terry also enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and tying flies, consulting on computer issues, endless crossword puzzles, and was a true aficionado on jazz music and its history. In 1990, he and his wife, Patricia, moved back to their hometown of Flint where he was involved with the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars (VFW)/American Veterans (AMVET), the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Loyal Order of Moose Fraternity.
Surviving are wife of 57 years, Patricia (Pat/P.J.);
children, Helene, Tricia, and Glenn;
five grandchildren, Olivia, Madison, Nicholas, Adam, and Allison;
his sister, Jan and husband Alan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Helyn Heath.
A memorial service will be held 2pm Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Rev. Father Louis Ekka officiating.
In lieu of flowers/plants, the family is requesting donations be gifted to Hospice House of Shiawassee County, an independent non-profit hospice care facility in where Terry spent his final days (hospicehouseshia.org) and/or Terry’s local AMVET Organization, Post 3720.
Memorial Visitation 1pm Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
