GRAY, Wilmer Walter "Willy" - Age 90, of Flushing, died Saturday, September 25, 2021. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at North Flushing Baptist Church, 7500 W. Mt. Morris Road, Flushing. Pastor Dale Lewis officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
Willy was born July 21, 1931, in Flint the son of Walter and Lillian (Tobias) Gray. He attended Flushing Schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He married Carol Lee Cady September 22, 1956, in Flint. Willy retired from GM Chevrolet in 1986 after 31 years of services. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 659. He also was a member of North Flushing Baptist Church, Michigan Cruisers, and National Street Rod Association. He was an avid chess player and loved working on cars, and spending time with his family. He took first place at the Carl Casper Car Show with his 1953 XK 120 Jaguar. In 1964 Willy played Chessman Bobby Fischer in a chess game and after 40 moves Fischer asked him for a draw.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol; 5 children, Danny (Genet) Gray of Flushing, Sheri (Gordon) McPherson of Birch Run, Lisa (Andre) Isaac of Swartz Creek, Michele Gray of Flushing, and Scott (April) Gray of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Nick (Olivia) Gray, Matthew McPherson, Eric (Joy) McPherson, Crystal (Kile) Sayer, Cameron (Joohee) Isaac, Winston Isaac (Keeley O’Neil), Amanda (Kyle) Patterson, Ashley Gray.
and 6 great grandchildren. Rile Gray, Eli McPherson, Callie H., Allison and Jayden Isaac, Parker Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his Parents Walter Gray and Lillian and James Audley Huey, and sister, Delores Gray. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
