John Ellwood Burtscher, born December 24, 1944, in Dover, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at Majestic Assisted Living.
John shared a lifetime of love and devotion with his beloved wife, Diana Kathryn Burtscher, whom he married on October 8, 1967. Together, they built a life rooted in care, commitment, and shared memories.
John was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for trains, photography, computers, theatre, and gardening. Whether he was capturing moments through a camera lens, tending to his garden, or enjoying the creativity of the stage, he found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War for two years. Following his service, John dedicated 12 years of his professional life to working with Detroit Public Schools, where he contributed to his community through education.
John was well-educated, having graduated from the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan College. His curiosity and appreciation for learning stayed with him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice McCue and James Burtscher.
He is survived by his aunt, Arlene Burcher, and her husband, Charles Burtscher, along with extended family and those who were touched by his kindness, interests, and gentle spirit.
John will be remembered for his quiet passions, his service, and the life he built with those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
