Phyllis Ann Will, aged 90, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at Swank Home Assisted Living in Swartz Creek, surrounded by family. A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 48429. Dr. Steven Wood will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Born on November 29, 1934, in the quaint town of Harbor Beach, Michigan, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of Paul and Beatrice (Hunter) Schave. Her early years in Harbor Beach were filled with the simple pleasures of small-town life, where she cultivated a lifelong love for the beauty of nature and the warmth of community.
A proud graduate of Port Hope High School, Class of 1952, Phyllis's youthful exuberance and zest for life were evident to all who knew her. Shortly after her graduation, she married the love of her life, Elwyn Edward Will, on December 13, 1952, in a heartfelt ceremony at Port Hope Church. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership until Elwyn's passing in 2024.
Phyllis and Elwyn settled in Lennon in 1962, where they built a life together and became integral members of the community. Their union was blessed with a love that spanned over seven decades. Together, they raised a family of four sons: Brian (Lila), Jeffrey (Judy), Rodney (Chari), and Rick (Veronica). His legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren, Nicholas (Nicole), Adam (Jennifer), Derrick, Nickolas (April), Karissa, Hannah, Benjamin (Dawn), Jeffrey (Mallory), Walter, and Amanda, as well as his great-grandchildren, Carter, Paisley, Ethan, Oliver, Brooks, Piper, Kayla, Brayden, Conner, Boone, Cade, and Selah.
Phyllis's passion for gardening shone brightly as she spent countless hours tending to her flowers. Her love for the outdoors extended to camping adventures, where she and her family made memories under the stars.
A regular at the local BINGO hall, Phyllis's competitive spirit and sociable nature made her a favorite among fellow players. She also found pleasure in watching sports, cheering on her favorite teams with the same enthusiasm she brought to every aspect of her life. Phyllis's creative talents were beautifully expressed through her skill in crocheting, where she crafted intricate designs that were as warm as her smile.
Phyllis's love for celebration was legendary, particularly her exuberance for New Year's festivities. Known for her spirited dancing on tables, she embodied the joy of living in the moment and encouraged others to embrace life with the same gusto! Her presence was a gift to those around her, and her absence will be deeply felt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved Elwyn; her grandson, Caleb; and siblings, Bernice, Doris, Beatrice, LeRoy, Paul Jr., Donald, Lee, and Kenneth.
Memorials in her name should be directed to the AMVETS Post 115, 8011 Rubicon Road, Port Hope, MI 48468.
