Steven W. Hess, 49, of Aledo, IL died Thursday March 31, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Aledo United Methodist Church. Burial is in the Aledo cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Fallerans Post 121. Visitation is from 4 – 8 PM Monday at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where memorials may be left to the Mercer County Family Crisis Center, Aledo United Methodist Church or American Legion Fallerans Post 121. He was born October 16, 1961 in Glenwood Springs, CO, to Edwin and Carol Pearson Hess. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1979 and was a 1983 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb majoring in Industrial Technology.
Steve was commissioned through the ROTC Program in 1981 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Illinois Army National Guard. He was employed as a technical Illustrator for various manufacturing companies throughout the country. For the past 4 years he worked at the Mercer County Family Crisis Center in Aledo where he enjoyed working with his 5 “moms.”
He was a member of the American Legion Fallerans Post 121, Aledo United Methodist Church, National Rifle Association and the WIU Alumni Association.
He was an avid Aledo High School sports fan, enjoyed bicycling, volunteering in the community and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his parents, Ed and Carol Hess of Aledo, 3 brothers Clay (Mary) Hess, Craig (Amy) Hess, Kris (Heidi) Hess all of Aledo, 8 nieces Ashley, Kara, Jessica, Casey, Sydney, Alyssa, Rebecca, Sarah, 2 nephews Jordan and Benjamin and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
