ROBERTS, Derek Brian – of Flint, MI, age 91, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. He went peacefully, with his family by his side. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment, with Military Honors, will be held 1 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. Immediately following the inurnment, a Reception to Celebrate the Life of Derek will be announced or contact family for details.

Derek was born in Middleton, England on April 23, 1932, son of the late William and Ellen (Edmonds) Roberts. He served with the British Merchant Marines before coming to the U.S. through Canada in 1954. Derek proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. On December 27, 1956, he united in marriage with his beloved Doreen Savage in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Together, they shared a bond of love and devotion until her passing on April 22, 2017. Derek was employed at AC Spark Plug/General Motors, from April 1955 until he retired in January 1991, where he contributed his talents and hard work for 35 years until his well-earned retirement. Beyond his professional endeavors, Derek embraced life with zest and enthusiasm. He enjoyed wintering in Florida for the past 30 years, along with fishing, bowling and running, always reveling in the simple pleasures of life. An enthusiast of good company and lively gatherings, Derek was known for his jovial spirit and warm hospitality. He delighted in sharing moments of laughter with friends and family, making every occasion a memorable one. His passion for Scotch and his home-made wine added a unique flair to his gatherings, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. Derek was a valued member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Flint Aerie #629 for over 40 years, where he fostered enduring friendships and contributed to the community he held dear. As we bid farewell to Derek, we remember him for his kindness, humor, and unwavering generosity. His legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. In honoring Derek's memory, may we find solace in the cherished moments we shared and the everlasting impact he had on our lives. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Derek is survived by his 4 children, Christine (Thomas) Livingston, Denise Kehoe, Brian (Sherri) Roberts and Michelle (Mike) Barnette; 8 grandchildren, Keith (Danielle) Livingston, Kalie Kehoe, Alexa Kehoe, Trent Kehoe, Nicholas (Kayla) Roberts Sr., Samantha Roberts, Madison Barnette and Seth Barnette; 7 great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ellen Roberts; wife, Doreen Roberts and grandson, Thomas Livingston II.
