Darlene Alice (“Yachak”) Sheehan, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Flint on September 24, 2025. Darlene was born on June 27, 1935, in Wakefield, Michigan to Isadore (Jack) and Florence (Beaudette) Yatchak and married Terrance Patrick Sheehan on July 23, 1960. Terrance declared himself the “luckiest man alive” throughout their 64-year marriage.
Darlene Sheehan is survived by her children: Denise D. Couling, Terrence M. Sheehan, and Martin J. Sheehan; and grandsons, Jonathan P. Couling, Christopher P. Couling and Gavin M. Sheehan, his son-in-law, Mark E. Couling, and extended family on both her and Terrance’s families. She was predeceased by her husband, Terrance, and her parents.
Darlene graduated with high honors from St. Matthew’s High School (Flint), from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor with a B.S. in medical technology, and from Oakland University as a paralegal assistant. Darlene was known for her contributions to the successful law practice of her husband, Terrance P. Sheehan, a renowned criminal attorney in Genesee County, handling many notable cases spanning the 1970s to early 2000s. Terrance referred to her as “brilliant and magnificent” and Darlene was well known as the prettiest and most polished member of the dynamic duo that delivered successful results to clients for decades in Genesee County and surrounding areas.
Darlene was a founding board member of the Flint Children’s Museum, a tireless volunteer providing decades of service to Flint’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade (of which Terrance was a founder), and a successful fundraiser, contributing style, grace, and glamour to every project in which she was involved.
Darlene passed away peacefully at home in hospice care, which would not have been possible without the heroic, round-the-clock effort of her son, Terrence, as primary caregiver. Of the numerous medical and home health professionals who assisted Terrence in supporting Darlene with her long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, the family also wishes to recognize and extend its sincerest gratitude to Queenella, Tiffany, Valerie, Peyton and Brittany and Helping Hand Nursing Service and Residential Hospice, all whom went above and beyond with compassion and professionalism to help Darlene remain at home during her illness — but none so more than Queenella, whose grace, guidance and selfless service has been nothing short of inspiring.
Darlene long time affiliations with Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, St. John’s in Davison (of whom she was a member of the bell choir) and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Burton.
