Norman Crozier Conn, affectionately known as "Storman Norman" or "Chops" age 86, passed away on April 2, 2026. Born on September 9, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Norman lived a life defined by dedication, humor, and a deep love for his family and community.
Norman graduated from Bartram High School in 1957—a milestone year in his life. That same year, he married his sweetheart and beloved wife of 68 years, Patricia Trainer, and proudly joined the United States Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne.
He often spoke fondly of his time in the service, where he developed lifelong friendships and a love for parachuting. He attended reunions at Fort Bragg with these buddies up until the time of his passing.
In 1964, Norman began his long career with DuPont in Philadelphia. His work ethic and commitment carried him through decades with the company, including a transfer to Michigan in 1979, where he continued his career as assistant plant manager, until retirement. Never one to stay idle, Norman later volunteered at Woodfield Golf Course, combining his love of work with his passion for golf.
Golf was one of Norman’s greatest joys. While he proudly claimed an albatross, he never quite achieved his goal of a hole-in-one—though those who knew him best are certain he’s already accomplished that in heaven.
Norman was a devoted member of his neighborhood for over 40 years, where he knew everyone and was known by all. Whether tending to his yard or offering a friendly wave, he earned the affectionate nickname “the mayor.” His lawn was meticulously cared for and admired by neighbors, often mowed daily and kept in pristine condition.
He was an avid gardener with a gift for growing just about anything, famously producing what his wife insists were the biggest tomatoes in Michigan. Norman also loved animals, and they seemed to love him right back. A great dancer, a tireless worker, and a devoted provider, Norman embraced life fully. He was always ready for fun, always willing to lend a hand, and always present for those he loved.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Edith Conn; his brother, Alfred Conn; his sister, Linda Kane; and many other beloved family members and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Conn (Trainer); his daughter, Patricia Conn; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christina Conn; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashley (Joe) Slosser and Michael Conn.
Norman will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, a hardworking and generous man, and a steady presence in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Interment will take place Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 1:30pm, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. |
