Hayes, Bertha M. of Flushing, age 85, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Monday, November 4, 2013, at Flushing United Methodist Church. Rev. Jeff Jaggers will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home and 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or the Flushing United Methodist Church.

Bertha was born in Waukegan, Illinois on June 29, 1928, the daughter of Edgar and Carrie (Manchester) McCumber. She married Richard B. Hayes on October 4, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2007. Bertha was a member of the Flushing United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Group. She retired from the Genesee County Clerk’s Office. Bertha enjoyed crochet and needlepoint, puzzles, traveling and going to the casinos. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bertha is survived by her children, Rick and wife Linda Hayes of Ortonville, Karen and husband Jeff Murdock of Flushing; grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Melissa, Tara, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Molly; sister, Phyllis Stoutenberg; many nieces and nephews and devoted cat, Abby. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Glen, Robert, and Ralph and two sisters, Marguerite “Muggs” and Helen.
