CHAMBERLAIN, Alice Louise – Of Burton, age 85, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, January 31, 2022.
Funeral service will be held 6PM Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Decaon Omar Odette officiating.
Visitation 2-8pm Monday at the funeral home.
Burial in Bear Lake Cemetery in Bear Lake, Michigan at a later date.
Alice was born in Belding, Michigan on April 13, 1936, the daughter of the late William E. and Sarah Martin. As a toddler she battled spinal meningitis and survived. Alice spent her young childhood years at Oral School in Grand Rapids until the age of 13 and then transferred to the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint. She flourished as a new student and participated in many sports, such as basketball and volleyball. She was also active in cheerleading and many other activities. Alice won the coveted role of Homecoming Queen in her senior year. She accomplished learning a new language of American Sign Language and received her diploma from M.S.D in five short years. Alice moved to Lansing, Michigan where she met her forever husband, Reno Chamberlain. They were married on August 14, 1962, a match made in Heaven. They went on to have their family and resided in Beecher then moved to a new home in Flushing, Michigan until Reno’s retirement where they then moved to Thompsonville, Michigan. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Alice also loved camping, crocheting, sewing and painting. Throughout her entire life Alice held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her at Deaf Church service and meetings. Alice was an avid member of MSD Alumni where she was the secretary. She and Reno started a new deaf group when they moved up north to his family home.
Surviving are children, William “Bill” Chamberlain, Robert “Bob” Smyth and Reene Chamberlain;
Grandchildren, Christi, Annie, Billie Jean, Jessica and Alec;
And several great-grandchildren;
Brother, William Martin;
And many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reno; children, Donald and Ann Marie; brother, Phillip and sister, Judy.
