Peterson, Clifford “Craig” – of Birch Run, age 81, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his home. The family will receive visitors from 12PM until 6PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for future designations.
Craig was born on October 10, 1944, in Lansing, Michigan. Craig attended Grand Ledge High School and graduated with the class of 1963. On March 1, 1972, he married the love of his life, Catherine Seeley, and together they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories. Craig served his country in the United States Army for three years as a helicopter mechanic, displaying the same dedication and skill that he later brought to his career as a carmen for the Railroad, where he earned the nickname "Doc." He wasn’t just a worker; he was a passionate advocate for his colleagues, serving as the Union Representative for the Flint division. Anyone who knew Craig knew of his unwavering love for football, especially for the Michigan State Spartans. Craig graduated from Michigan State University with his bachelor’s degree in history. His enthusiasm was contagious, as was his love for poker and blackjack in his younger years. He also cultivated his love for sports by coaching baseball and football for his son, and women’s softball, leaving a lasting impact on the teams he guided. He proudly volunteered on the Birch Run Fire department. Craig was known for his stubbornness, his outspoken nature, and his commitment to his beliefs as a true democrat. He was a colorful character who brought life and laughter to gatherings, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are: Wife of 54 years, Cathy Peterson; Children: Eric Peterson and Erinne Peterson (Aris Tubilan); Grandchildren: Eric Michael, Jacob, Adonis, Shyanne, Skylar: Great Grandchildren: Connor, Ellery Rose and Rileigh Elizabeth, Remmington Jacob ; Siblings: Gloria Cliber, Randy (Joanne) Seeley, Fred (Janiece) Seeley, Michelle Cox, Mary Mauer, John (Jennifer) Seeley; Many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in passing by his parents: Clifford and Marion Peterson; Siblings: Kathie (Doug) Wilton and Connie Mimms.
