Diane Sue Fortune, affectionately known as “Dee” and “Ave,” age 84, of Burton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Diane was born on February 19, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to Roxie and Herbert Blankenship. She was one of six children and attended Bendle Schools. Diane dedicated 32 years of service as Supervisor of the Treasury Department at Burton City Hall, where she was respected for her integrity, leadership, and Loyalty.

In 1966, Diane married Robert Fortune, with whom she shared many wonderful years. She enjoyed collecting antiques, crafting, gardening, golfing, bowling, and walking. Diane and Robert especially cherished their winters spent in Florida. She was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and a long-time member of a women’s monthly card club with dear friends.

Diane’s belief in God was steadfast, and she was a devoted member of the Church of God in Flint, Michigan. Her strong faith and unwavering love for her family were the cornerstones of her life.

She is survived by her best friend and companion, Ernest Gifford; her children Cynthia (Bud) Holzer, Charles A. (Ellie) Kimball, Annette Kimball, and Marcy Kimball; and her nine grandchildren: Nicole, Chad, Kelley, Kristin, Tim, Stephanie, Cory, Staci, and Charlie. Diane was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Katana, Jersey, Johnathan, Savannah, Dayton, Conner, Maddie, Sophie, Brilynn, Daryl, and Kai.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fortune, and her five siblings.
A memorial service will be held at Davison United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 7th at 11am for visitation, service and luncheon to follow. All flowers and donations may be sent to Davison United Methodist Church, 207 East Third Street, Davison, MI 48423.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Diane’s gracious and loving caregivers—Michelle, Nicole, Nikki, Lisa, Joan—and the team at Compassus Hospice for their care and compassion.

Diane will be remembered for her faith, kindness, and devotion to family – a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
