Victor Earl Severn, 67, of Millington, Michigan, took his final ride into the great beyond on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after spending his final days surrounded by the love and comfort of his siblings.
Victor was born December 17, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Earl and Marcella (Maitland) Severn. He grew up in Millington and earned his journeyman's license in roofing. Victor worked at many places over the years, and his hands helped put roofs over countless homes and businesses throughout Flint, the surrounding area, and Central Michigan. He married his high school sweetheart, Kenitha, and together they welcomed two daughters, Julie and Jill. Some of Victor's fondest memories were making Christmas cookies, peanut butter fudge, buckeyes, and caramel corn together; riding snowmobiles and quads; and telling stories and jokes to make his girls laugh. He was very proud of his family and, later, his grandchildren. Victor was a man of many contradictions and was impossible to describe in simple terms. He lived life by his own principles, questioned just about everything, and never had much interest in fitting neatly into society's expectations. He valued freedom, individuality, loyalty, and respect. One lesson he passed along was that respect is a universal language and that you should never judge a book by its cover—everyone has a story and struggles you may not be able to see. He believed that when you walk with respect, doors open to new relationships, experiences, and opportunities.
He loved riding his motorcycle, losing himself in classic rock, spending time with animals, and collecting rocks, crystals, and gemstones. A good meal and a conversation with friends that could wander from jokes to philosophy to ancient aliens without warning fueled his soul. He enjoyed cooking and could grill a perfect steak, usually paired with his signature stuffed mushrooms or jalapeno poppers. In recent years, he found joy in singing karaoke and especially enjoyed singing In the Ghetto by Elvis Presley. Those lucky enough to hear him sing along with Creedence Clearwater Revival or Bob Seger knew he had a genuinely great voice. Victor had a soft spot for animals and a willingness to stop when someone needed help. Years ago, at a party, he noticed a mother cat struggling to give birth. While everyone else carried on, Victor stepped in and helped deliver Sugarbear and her sibling. Sugarbear became his faithful companion, and the two seemed to understand each other in a language all their own. His little dog, Rosie, held an equally special place in his heart. Whether befriending opossums—with whom he shared pizza and sunsets—or taking in rabbits, macaws, or just about any other animal in need, Victor had a gentle heart for creatures of all kinds. His family, friends, and the brotherhood he found throughout his life meant a great deal to him. Victor could be fiercely independent and deeply loyal at the same time. He had a quick sense of humor, a curious mind, and almost always ended conversations with his girls by saying, “I love you with all my heart.”
Victor is survived by his daughters, Julie (Matt) Wilkinson and Jill Severn (Matt Ackels); grandchildren, Olivia Haring, Nicholas Haring, Sydney Haring, Madalynn Ackels, and Sophia Ackels; his faithful companions, Sugarbear and Rosie; siblings, Cindy Hemmes, Ronnie (Patty) Severn, and Lonnie (Cindy) Severn; and many close friends.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews Robert (Sheri) Gilmore, Sandy (Joe) Johnson, Shannon (Erik) Kaiser, Lonnie Severn Jr., Sabrina (Scott) Hartman, Christie (Curt) Thomas, and Michael (Beth) Severn, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved companion, Donna McComb; his parents, Earl and Marcella Severn; his brother, Rex Severn; and his sister, Kimberly Rinz.
Cremation will take place, with a small graveside gathering for immediate family to be held at a later date.
Victor would likely want to be remembered with a cold drink in hand, a smoke nearby, and a fond memory—or one of the jokes he told you, whether it was appropriate or not. We like to picture him now free of pain, with an open road ahead, a motorcycle beneath him, CCR or Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas playing in the background, and no one telling him which road to take. Dad, we hope you've finally found the peace and freedom you searched for throughout your life. We love you, too... with all our hearts.
