Mr. Richard T. “Dick” Holman was “Promoted to Glory” at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Michigan at the age of 83 on May 22, 2018. Dick is survived by his wife, Phyllis S. Holman of Flushing, Michigan. Three Sons Steve (Connie) Holman of Coral Cables, Florida, Scott (Debbie) Holman of Flushing, Michigan, and Craig Holman of Aurora, Colorado. Dick has 4 grandchildren: Lauren, Courtney, Sean, and Catherine, 4 great grand children, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Esther and Richard H. Holman of Flint Michigan, and sisters Marian (Bill) Agre and Margaret (Jim) Fedraw. Dick was born on July 6, 1934 in Flint, MI to Richard H. and Esther Holman. He graduated from Flint Northern and held degrees from Albion College, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan. He married Phyllis Jane Saxman, in 1955. After moving to Flushing, Dick worked for Flushing Schools as athletic director and a physical education teacher. His most rewarding experiences came from coaching young people and the development of the Kangaroo Kids program at Elms Elementary. Dick was a life-long member of The Salvation Army Flint Citadel. He was an accomplished instrumentalist playing in the band for 65 years and served as bandmaster for over 25 years. He continued playing his cornet until his recent illness at the age of 83. A memorial is scheduled for June 3, 2018 at The Salvation Army Flint Citadel, 211 W. Kearsley St, Flint, Michigan. Visitation is 4:00-5:45 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 6:00 p.m. There will be a reception to follow. Captain Caleb Senn will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The Flint Citadel Band at 211 W. Kearsley St. Flint, MI 48502. The family would like to thank the staff on 9 south at McLaren Flint Hospital and McLaren VNA Hospice for the compassionate care extended to Dick and the family.
