HELMS, Barbara E. (Stimac) – of Clio, age 78, died peacefully at home with family by her side on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Monday, October 26, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church - 11110 Saginaw St, in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Bill Wegher officiating. Burial in West Vienna Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Sunday from 3PM until 7PM and at the church on Monday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in Flint.
Barbara was born August 20, 1942 in Flint, Michigan to the late Frank and Mary (Dushan) Stimac. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1960. Barbara married James Helms on September 14, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She worked as a secretary at Hamady for several years. Barbara knew the love for her Lord and was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Croatian Lodge #561 and immensely proud of her Croatian heritage. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, camping, walking, cooking and baking – especially her delicious molasses cookies. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are: Husband, James Helms; Daughters: Cynthia (James) Bronson, and Catrina (Eric) Wiskur; Son, James Helms II; Son in law, Scott Coffey; Grandchildren: Ashley (Ian) Corrigal, Megan (Matt) Jacobs, Holly Bronson, Jake Bronson, Stuart Wiskur, Schaefer Wiskur, and Nathan Helms; Sister, Susan (George) Hill; Many other loving family members and dear friends, especially: Sister in law, Marleen Davis and longtime friends, Keith and Wava Valliere. Barbara was preceded in death by: Daughter, Christina Coffey; Brothers: Paul Stimac, and Frank (Nancy) Stimac; Sister, Christina Stimac; Brothers in law: LeRoy Davis and Walter Helms; Father and mother in law, William & Freida Helms.
