David Michael Darby, Of Grand Blanc, age 86 passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023.

David was born on January 20, 1937 to the late Marjorie (Frawley) and Arthur Darby. David grew up on a farm in Flushing, Michigan. His family grew apples and raised holiday turkeys. He had many, many stories of life on the farm.

David attended Flushing schools and graduated in 1955. He went on to attend GMI. David began his career at General Motors in 1959 and worked there until 2001.

David enjoyed cars, gardening, Florida vacations, University of Michigan football and basketball, and the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed reading western novels, watching crime TV and playing Sudoku.

He was a devout Catholic. He prayed daily, including the rosary. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer perpetual adoration team from 4 am to 5 am for over 20 years.

He was a fixture at his grandchildren’s activities for years. Later he enjoyed live streaming the events.

On April 11, 1964 he married Christine (Micinski), (Rariden) at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Flint, Michigan. Together they had 2 children. They had a blended family including 6 children from Christine’s first marriage. They moved from Lawndale in Flint to Ottawa Hills in Grand Blanc, MI in 1968 and he lived in Grand Blanc until his death. They were married for 57 years until Christine’s death in 2021.

Preceding him in death: wife, Christine Darby, granddaughter, Shannon Rariden PhD; brothers, Richard Darby and Arthur Darby; sister, Catherine (Darby) Lowery.

Surviving, children; Madeline J. (Rick) Weishuhn, Gerard D. (Tracy) Darby; step-children, Jude T. (Elizabeth) Rariden, Dennis M. (Mary) Rariden, Terrence G. (Michelle) Rariden, Crissy R. Rariden, Kevin C. (Victoria) Rariden and Robert L. (Lorraine) Rariden.

22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Memorial visitation at 9 a.m. and Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Michigan, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, Father Georges Bidzogo officiating.

To honor David’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Michigan for the purpose of research.
