MANGAPORA, John Michael - Of Grand Blanc, age 70, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Father Gary Koenigsknecht officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation 4-8pm Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
John was born September 20, 1943 to Anthony Mangapora (Mangiapane) and Marianne (Maggio) Mangapora in Flint. On April 25, 1964, he married Linda Stacks. John was a lifelong resident of the Flint and Grand Blanc area, graduating from Flint Central High School in 1961. He retired from General Motors after 47 years of service. John was a member of UAW Local #599. He loved spending time with family, traveling and visiting casinos. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Grand Blanc. John's passion was his yard and landscaping and he spent countless hours tending to his lawn, shrubs and vegetable garden. John played basketball and enjoyed running well into his 50s and 60s. John was a Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed as many of their games on TV that he could. John was most proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. His time spent with them was very special, attending many sports activities, dance recitals and family get-togethers. He will be greatly missed.
John leaves his wife of 50 years, Linda; Children, John (Leslie) Mangapora of Clarkston, MI, Brian (Tricia) Mangapora of Midland, MI, Theresa (Brian Shaw) Mangapora of College Station, TX and Amy Mangapora Britton of Grand Blanc, MI; grandchildren, Ryan Mangapora, Alyssa Mangapora, Carter Mangapora and Abigail Britton; brothers, Joe (Phyllis) Mangapora of Flint, MI and Benny (Sharon) Mangapora of Canfield, OH; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Anthony and mother, Marianne Mangapora, brother, Albert Mangapora, sisters, Mary Bergy, Rose Eppinger, Anna Ware, Kate Cartwright, Josephine Harvill and Lena Thompson. A special thank you to the McLaren Cancer Center Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology doctors and the wonderful, caring staff and nurses. Thanks to RN Matt with McLaren Home Health Care and also to the McLaren Hospice Care Group and Debra McKinney, Right at Home.
