Laverne "Pete" C. Hemgesberg
Age 93 of Owosso passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Michael O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.
Laverne "Pete" was the son of Leo and Carmelita (Gross) Hemgesberg, born in New Lothrop, Michigan on December 12, 1932.
He graduated from St. Michael's Catholic School and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Pete married his forever sweetheart Jeanette (Grnak) on April 16, 1955. They have spent over 71 loving years together.
He worked at Midland Ross for 29 years and also at General Motors for 2 years.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 and spent 6 years in the Army Reserves.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes and loved going deer and fox hunting. Pete and Jeanette enjoyed time together camping up north and going polka dancing. He was a huge U of M fan, win or lose..."GO BLUE!"
Pete is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his three daughters, Linda (Mike) Murphy, Diane (Dennis) Carl and Lori (Tom) Janca; grandchildren Nicholas Venne, Todd (Lauren) Venne, Megan (Mike) Brady, Brian (Missy) Murphy, Janae Janca and Alex Janca; seven great-grandchildren; sister Sally Gross; brothers Dan, Mike and Jim Hemgesberg; and many other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Mary Bitterman, Betty Bruff and Patricia Patterson and his brothers Alvin and Bill Hemgesberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul or the Shiawassee County Council on Aging "Meals on Wheels" program.
