Richard was born May 21, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Richard and Olive (Sheperd) Lutz. He married Jean Smith on June 13, 1964, in Paris, Kentucky, they shared 56 wonderful years together. He graduated with his BA in 1961 from Anderson College and went on to obtain an MA degree in Education from U of M in 1981. Richard served in the Army Reserve, then went on to be a middle school teacher for Clio Community Schools. He retired in 1992 with 30 years of service. More than anything he was a man of faith and loved his Lord Jesus. Richard was an active member of the Church of God in the Flint and Clio area. Over the years he was involved in volunteer treasury work, choir, senior ministry and coordinating funeral dinners for his church family. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends, 4H with the grandchildren, puttering around with his hobby farm and antiquing. Richard also enjoyed gardening, especially his irises and playing Dominoes. Richard was a very caring person with a great sense of humor who could out talk anyone. After retirement he continued to help tutor students and volunteer at Lacure Elementary. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, brother, friend, and teacher who will be greatly missed by many.
