Powers, John Alfred, of Flushing, age 72, died Wednesday, May 27, 2026, peacefully surrounded by family at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Pfeuffer will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
John was born in Flint, Michigan on January 31, 1954, the son of Alfred and Patricia (Palmer) Powers. He married Pauline Douglas on June 5, 1976, at the First Baptist Church in Flushing. John and Pauline raised 3 children Jeremy, Brooke and Chad. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era as a Military Police. He worked for over 32 years at Buick City, retiring in 2006. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and spending time at his hunting spot in Glennie. He loved the Buffalo Bills and arguing about sports with family and friends . Above all, John enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud grandpa.
John is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Pauline; children, Jeremy and wife Erin Powers, Brooke and husband Troy Sawade, Chad Powers; grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Emma, Brielle, and Everette; siblings, Gail and husband Greg Denkins, William Hays, Eugene Hays, Mark Hays; and many close friends, family, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Helena Powers, Patricia and Ralph (Hays); his beloved grandfather, Jack Powers; dear friends, Danny and Jackie Murphy.
