LUNDIE, Danny Thomas – of Eaton Rapids, Michigan passed away on August 28, 2026 at 66. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 4, 2026 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Compassus Hospice or plant a tree in honor of Danny.
He was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 26, 1959. Dan had a caring soul, with an endless supply of positive energy. He had a special gift, the ability to mentor, and those who sought his advice or use him as a sounding board for ideas have been touched and are ever more grateful.
Dan was a true multi-sport athlete, excelling at all he attempted. His football team at Durand High School was inducted into the MHSAA Hall of Fame. It was not uncommon for Dan to come off the bench for his high school basketball team to score 28-30 points to win the game, as the man could SHOOT! He went onto play baseball at Aquinas College and later played for the Battle Creek Ferrari Baseball team that won the AABC 1986 Amateur World Series. Dan was also an avid golfer, a “ringer” on many outing four-some’s. He enjoyed immensely his annual trip with the “boys” to South Carolina.
Dan earned his BS Degree from Aquinas College and started his career in sales in the 1980’s with Snappy Auto, quickly rising to area manager. His first stint with Meijer was as the “Health & Beauty Department Manager, which he left to join Medline Industries, an American medical supply manufacturer and distributor. For more than a decade, he earned accolades for outstanding sales achievements with them. Dan rejoined Meijer after his move to Eaton Rapids, this time managing their warehouses until his retirement in 2020.
Dan’s true love being sprots. And more specifically baseball, he resigned from Medline to coach for his Alma Mater, Aquinas. After leading the Saints to their first ever World Series appearance, he took advantage of another coaching opportunity with Grand Rapids Community College. Once again, true to his nature, Dan coached that team to the World Series as well!
Dan was the beloved husband of Shelby Bailer, whom he met at a friend’s house. She survives. They shared 23 years together, were married for twelve and enjoyed years of traveling, both across the globe and closer to home on their Harleys. Their paradise on earth was at Stormy Dreamz.
Dan was blessed to have been loved by two sets of parents, his own, Cloyse and Shirley Lundie (both predeceased) as well as his in laws, Doug and Roberta (pre-deceased) Bailer. He is survived by his adoring god parents, Harry and LeeAnn Buehler.
Dan was an amazing brother to siblings, Teresa (Don) McKay, David (Laurie) Lundie and Lenore (Dan) McMaster. He was the doting uncle to nephews, Aidan and Owen McMaster.
He was cherished and deeply loved by Shelby’s nieces and nephews, Brett (Nikki) Polley, Andrea Polley, Miranda Polley, Bradley Polley, Allen Polley, Stephanie Niederquell, and John (Madalynn Burgess) Niederquell.
Dan was a Special uncle to the Frederickson girls, Kimberly, his god daughter and Peyton.
