Gary Hugh Ashley

Born: 3/18/1947
Died: 4/9/2026
Age: 79
Community: Burton, MI

Gary Hugh Ashley, 79, passed away peacefully on April 9th, with his two sons by his side.

Gary was born and raised in Yadkinville, North Carolina, the son of the late Willie Hugh and Mattie Gaye Ashley. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Vietnam veteran. Following his service, Gary made his home in Burton, Michigan, where he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and determination. In later years, he split his time between Michigan and Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.

Gary was married to the love of his life, Judy Lea Ashley, for 57 wonderful years. Together they built a family that was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his two sons, William Wayne (Karli) Ashley and Bennie Lee (Amanda) Ashley; and his cherished grandchildren: Lucian, Gage, Maddison, Alexis, Malaya, Anniston, Sophia, and Alivia.

He is also survived by his sister, Sharon, and brothers Larry and Randy, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Michael and Donnie.

Gary was an entrepreneur and business owner whose strong work ethic and sharp mind defined much of his life. He was always thinking, always building, always planning his next move. Outside of work, he found joy in hunting and fishing—simple pleasures that reflected his love for the outdoors.

Known for his charm and his stubborn streak, Gary had a presence that was unforgettable. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a man who loved deeply, even if he didn’t always say it out loud. He will be remembered for his determination, his sense of humor, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. He also had a special place in his heart for all of his beloved grand dogs.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Michigan. A celebration of life will follow at Redwood Steakhouse in Flint.

Gary’s legacy lives on in the family he built, the lives he touched, and the memories that will continue to be shared for generations to come.
