SIMS, Marie Delnora (Loucks) – of Flint, MI, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Davison Missionary Church, 1481 North Gale Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Allen Sudmann officiating. Private inurnment in Millington Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 10-11 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Davison Missionary Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison Missionary Church, in Marie’s memory.
Marie was born in Goshen, IN on October 7, 1929. She was the third of ten children born to Orville Jacob Loucks and Miriam Lucile (Moyer) Loucks. Her large family lived on a small dairy farm outside of Goshen, IN. She grew up helping with the farm chores and caring for her younger siblings. She loved reading and going to school. After graduation from high school, Marie enrolled in the newly founded Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was a member of the first freshman class and graduated in 1951. While there she met her future husband, Bradley K. Sims. They were married on September 2, 1951. The Sims family lived in many places in Michigan and Indiana in the early years, but eventually settled in Davison in 1959. Brad taught science at Davison High School while Marie was a traditional mom, caring for the family of five children. Marie and Brad attended and helped establish the Davison United Missionary Church, (the current Davison Missionary Church). Marie was a faithful attender and volunteer at DMC and was Grandma Marie to many of the children of DMC. As her children grew up, Marie decided it was time to pursue her passion for teaching. She returned to school and soon received her teaching certificate. She taught Social Studies and English at Clio Middle School for 17 years. Marie’s husband and love, Bradley, passed away in 1987, but she carried on. She taught for several more years and was active at her church. After she retired, she began to travel. She went to the Middle East, Great Britain and Ireland and several extended trips around the United States and Canada. She would drive alone to Indiana and Florida well into her 80's to visit family and care for her parents.
Marie is survived by 5 children, Barbara (David) Hollenbeck of Flint, MI, John (Evelyn) Sims of Fairborn, OH, Daniel (Patricia) Sims of Hyde Park, NY, Janice (John) Dillon of Fairborn, OH and Michael Sims of Columbus, OH; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca Sims, James (Ollie) Hollenbeck, John Dillon, Matthew (Vicki) Dillon and Elizabeth Hunsaker; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Rollan) Gongwer; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Miriam Loucks; her husband, Bradley K. Sims; 4 brothers, Paul Loucks, David Loucks, Walter Loucks and John Loucks; 4 sisters, Grace Pettifor, Gladys Pettifor, Ruth Yoder and Barbara Lilly.
