Raymond A. Birchmeier

Age 96 of New Lothrop passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Chesaning Comfort Care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 9, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Homes New Lothrop Chapel on Thursday, November 8 from 3:00 to 8:00pm with a Vigil service at 7:00pm, and also at the church on Friday from 10:00am until the service.

Raymond was born to Anthony C. and Olive S. (Schuster) Birchmeier on September 10, 1922 in Maple Grove Twp. He graduated from St. Michael School in Maple Grove Twp in 1941. He also graduated from Baker College in Flint and the American Institute of Banking School in NY with a Major in Commercial Banking. Raymond served in WWII stationed in Okinawa and South Korea under Hq. Co. 592nd Engr. Boat and Shore Regt., and was honorably discharged in 1946 with a rank of Tec #3.

Raymond worked at Citizens Bank in Flint as Asst. Cashier and Senior Accounting Officer with the Controllers Dept. of the bank, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grpve, where he served as an usher for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW Post #6579 in New Lothrop since 1974, where he was elected as Post Quartermaster. As such, he was awarded several high honors by the Dept. of Michigan VFW. Raymond also held other post appointed officer's positions. He was appointed as Deptartment Auditor for 5 years in the VFW, and also served as Department Trustee fro about 10 years for a different post in the State of Michigan. Raymond was also a member of the American Legion Post #485 of St. Charles, MI.

During his life, Raymond enjoyed working in the garden and taking care of the lawn. Most of all, he loved to travel out West by the Amtrak train. He also enjoyed playing bingo.

Raymond is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Kodrick, Betty Rochefort, Joyce (Jerry) Starland, and Helen Peet; his sister-in-law, Marion Birchmeier; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Olive Birchmeier; his brothers, Gerald, Philinus, and Dale Birchmeier; and his sisters, Eileen Bishop, Mary Ann Meder, and Jeanette Wenzlick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the VFW Post 6579 or St. Michael's Catholic Church.
