CHRISTENSEN, Robert John – of Davison, MI, age 86, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at home under McLaren Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 706 West Flint Street, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Todd I. Frusti officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Meadowview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, in Robert’s memory.

Robert was born in Flint, MI on October 1, 1931, son of the late John and Velda (Peters) Christensen. He was a graduate of Davison High School Class of 1950. Robert married Dorothy Lillian Albro on February 17, 1956 in Flint, MI. He began his career employed with Fuller and Emerson Engineering, working as a Machinist and in Research and Development for 15 years. Robert continued his career in Research and Development employed with Schmelzer Corporation for 30 years. He retired from Saturn Electronics and Engineering in 2000. Music was a large part of Robert’s life. He enjoyed playing drums in high school and collected over 20,000 records for his “Music Barn” and even refurbished 3 player pianos. Robert volunteered for several organizations, including the Davison Blood Drive, 4-H and Royalairs Drum and Bugle Corps. He and Dorothy spent 10 years as counselors for the Walther League. Robert had a great love for telling the history of Richfield Center and Davison, MI. Robert was an avid collector, member of Trinity Lutheran Church, life member and volunteer of the Davison Area Historical Society and Museum.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; daughter, Marta (Shawn) Compton; son, Scott (Wendy) Christensen; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; faithful canine companion and “nurse”, Zada Anne “Poochie”; sister, Betty McGill-Shaw; 2 nieces, Susan McGill and Carol McGill (Ron Burke); brother-in-law, Frank Albro; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers-in-law, Bill McGill and Bob Shaw.
