Mildred F. (Weatherwax) Burgess of Richfield Township, age 98 died Oct. 21, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. A lifelong resident of Richfield Township, Mildred was born May 2, 1927, to James and Anna Weatherwax (Proper). After high school graduation in 1944, she worked at Davison A&P store until hiring on at GM Fisher Body (Turnstead) plant in 1953, retiring in 1986. She married Charles Burgess Dec. 1958. They shared 49 wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. Mildred loved to bowl and enjoyed playing the game well into her eighties. During her early retirement years she volunteered for the Davison library board, participated in UAW retiree functions and local election activities. She motored the country visiting friends and family until, at age 94, she hung up the keys for the last time. However, when the opportunity arose, she would ride the bus to Detroit with fellow union retirees for some high stakes gambling on the penny machines. Her photo in the 1944 senior class yearbook is accompanied with a quote given her by fellow classmates; it reads; “Trouble does not daunt her.” How right they were! Preceded in death by husband Charles and daughter Molly. Surviving are son Paul and wife Sherri, son in-law Frank, stepson Neil and wife Lola, stepdaughter Kathy, sister-in-law Lila, three generations of grandchildren, six generations of nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will take place 1:30PM on Nov 9, 2025, at the East Flint Lions Club 4352 Crosby Rd, Flint.
