Michael Anthony Hemgesberg, age 64, of New Lothrop passed away at home on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on November 30, 1961, in Flint, Michigan, the oldest of seven children of Leonard and Jean (Ruddy) Hemgesberg. He attended grade school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School and graduated from Chesaning High School in 1980. After high school, Mike entered the work force as an auto body painter. Over the years he also learned plumbing, electrical, and HVAC and was a creative and talented jack-of-all trades. He loved helping family and friends with their projects, and he passed many of his skills on to his sons Aaron and Adam while also encouraging them to pursue their own interests and dreams.
On June 25, 2011, Mike married Janice Robinson and they made their home in New Lothrop. Sharing a love for gardening, they turned their corner lot into a little farm where they raised chickens, grew delicious fruits and vegetables, and beautiful flower gardens that were admired by all. They cooked, canned, and generously shared their surplus with family and friends.
Mike also had a passion for baking bread, a skill he learned at a young age from his mother. Mike loved listening to the old country music of George Jones, Keith Whitley and others, but he also had a talent for music and could play the accordion and the mandolin. Mike loved the outdoors and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most mornings Mike could be found in his gazebo enjoying a hot cup of coffee, watching the birds and quietly taking in the beauty of nature.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Jean in 1975 and his father Leonard in 2005. He is survived by his beloved wife Janice, his sons Aaron Hemgesberg and Adam Hemgesberg (Kendyl Marine); his siblings Tom Hemgesberg, Tony (Laurie) Hemgesberg, Teresa Hemgesberg, Maria (Mike) Balser, Lisa Hemgesberg (Sue Gilson), and Alice (Dave) Carter; Janice’s children Jessie Neton, Deshawn Robinson, Brittney (Josh) Herrick, and Dominique (Amanda) Robinson; his grandchildren Grace, Mason, Levi, Piper, and Patrick who brought him so much joy when they called him Grandpa. He will also be missed by Janice’s siblings, several aunts and uncles, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice for the assistance and care they
provided to Mike.
A memorial service will be held Friday July 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. McGeehan Funeral Homes New Lothrop Chapel. There will be a visitation on Friday July 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. |
