Joyce M. Bergstrom, 87, of Galesburg, Il formerly of Woodhull, Il died Friday February 25, 2011 in her home at Hawthorne Inn in Galesburg.
Services are 10:00 AM Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull.
Burial is in the Woodhull cemetery. Visitation is from 3-5 PM Sunday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull where memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Woodhull Cemetery Assoc. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com
She was born November 14, 1923 in Davenport, IA to Orville and Linda Letsch Hicks. She grew up in East Moline and graduated from United Township High School in 1941. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. L.D.
Barding in Moline and later worked at American Machine and Metals in East Moline.
On September 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Reginald J.
Bergstrom at Peace Lutheran Church near Barstow, Il. He died November 17, 2009. They farmed near Andover for 14 years until founding the Bergstrom Seed and Grain Company in Woodhull retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the Kings Daughters in East Moline and the Woman’s Club in Woodhull. She also belonged to the Woodhull Red Hat Society and the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull where she served on the Altar Guild and Hope Circle.
Joyce enjoyed nature, flower gardening, baking and being a homemaker.
Joyce and Reg both enjoyed golfing and he witnessed her hole-in-one in 1989. They especially enjoyed their retirement spending 24 years wintering in Mesa. AZ
Survivors include 2 sons, Robert (Verna) Bergstrom of Alpha, Il, Richard
(Setsuko) Bergstrom of Fremont, CA, 5 grandchildren Inger (Bruce) Krieg of House Springs, MO, Andrea Bergstrom of Champaign, Il, Erik (Lisa) Bergstrom of Elm Grove, WI, Reggie and Kristina Bergstrom both of Fremont, 3 great grandchildren Marissa Krieg, and Mia and Tessa Bergstrom,
Her parents, husband, 1 son Mark and 2 sisters preceded her in death.
